Berry Sweet Honda Racing MX1 contender recalls QMP victory.
Coming into the season underdone following a lengthy run of injuries, 2025 was always going to be a rebuilding year for Berry Sweet Honda Racing’s Wilson Todd – and that’s exactly how it played out. The Queenslander steadily returned to form and capped off his campaign with a standout moto win and overall victory at the ProMX finale at QMP. Hear Todd’s Fast Thoughts on the final round and more.
Back on top after a tough stint…
Yeah, it’s good. Obviously, it’s nice to finally see things start to pay off. It’s been a long time with a lot of setbacks trying to get there, but definitely over the last couple of months, I’ve been in a good place – both overall and in the races each week. So it’s been trending in the right direction, which is good.
Your day at QMP…
Oh yeah, it was good. I was quickest in qualifying and then in superpole I went P3, I think. It wasn’t the cleanest lap, but it was solid. Then yeah, the pressure was definitely on – I knew I had to get a good result. I got a good start in the first moto, started second or third, and in the next one I pulled the holeshot and had a comfortable lead, then I ended up crashing. Picked it up and just rode it in from there. I was pretty content with the position I was in because I knew it was enough to secure third in the championship, then on the last lap, I just put in a charge and was able to close the gap. I pulled back a couple of seconds that lap, and coming into the final turn, I started seeing dollar signs – like, I knew I had a shot. I just pinned it straight down there. He wouldn’t have been expecting it because I was still quite a way back, but I just slammed it up the inside and managed to pull it off. I was stoked.
The mental side after all the injuries…
Yeah, mental wear can really take a toll on you – not just from getting hurt all the time, but from finding the motivation to push forward, only to get knocked back and have to go through the same thing over and over again. The amount of hours, training, and effort it takes just to gain positions… each time you get back to that point, it can be mentally draining. But I finally feel like I’ve turned the page. I’ve had a couple of months now just grinding without any setbacks, and that’s the best feeling, you know?
Clearing up the 250/450 talk…
I think everyone’s just going to have to wait and see. Nah, I’m racing a 250 in supercross, that was always the deal every year – 450 for motocross and 250 for supercross. I’m still working on what I want to do next year, but we’ll figure it out soon, I guess.
Wilson Todd’s future…
I’m keen to just stay here. I’m just trying to kick back and build a bit of a property portfolio around here, and pretty much just be happy in the sun. I’ve gotten past the point of living a miserable lifestyle somewhere just to chase something unrealistic and end up drained with no money.
