A unique career ‘lifeline’ for Matt Moss will see the nine-time Australian champion reunited with Penrite Racing Empire Kawasaki for the upcoming 2025 Boost Mobile AUSX Supercross Championship commencing in October.

After a brief stint together two years ago that saw Moss’ campaign cut short in Newcastle – following a podium at Adelaide’s opening round – the now 37-year-old is returning to the Victorian-based organisation after initially striking his own Kawasaki deal.

“I had a deal with Kawasaki directly, not through the factory teams or anything like that,” Moss told MotoOnline. “I was just talking back and forth with Tyson [Cherry], and it eventuated that I can ride for these guys and they’ll look after me for supercross in Australia. Obviously, being a privateer, it was always going to be hard, so these guys have definitely thrown me a lifeline.

“I’ve still got to get myself to the races and all that sort of stuff, but otherwise, it’s a factory bike and I feel like one of the keys is that I get to use Krooztune for my suspension, so that was a major thing for me. Any time I’ve ever had that suspension, I felt good, and I feel there’s not too much pressure on the team.

“It’s probably the best decision I could make, and I’m excited to get back on the green bike. Last time I was on one I was riding really well – we started off on the podium at Adelaide, then that crash at Newcastle put an end to our year, but I’m really looking forward to it.”

A deal with Monster Energy CDR Yamaha last year was expected to be a final ingredient needed for Moss to make a full-tilt effort towards another domestic SX1 crown, although the relationship ultimately yielded a challenging season, seeing him classified 13th in the final standings.

“Last year just didn’t go as planned in any shape for me,” Moss continued. “That was on me, though, that was all my doing… I feel like this year I can go out and give it my all and have a good result. I feel like I’ve still got plenty to give and I’m gonna show that come round one.”

Rounds one and two of AUSX is set for October 11-12, which kicks off the five-round series this year. It’s unclear how Moss’ domestic commitments will integrate with the Indian Supercross Racing League, with its season-opener clashing with round three in Sydney.
