A mixture of Australians will wildcard at the upcoming MXGP of China this month, with ProMX competitors Zac Watson and Levi Rogers confirmed in the MXGP category, while Byron Dennis will line up in the MX2 division.

The Shanghai event on September 14 marks the penultimate stop of this year’s 20-round series, which leads into the season finale in Darwin at the end of the month.

“I’m excited to be racing the MXGP of China, it’s sort of been in the works since around Toowoomba – organising it with both MA and the FIM,” Watson told MotoOnline. “They’ve helped arrange the logistics of it, so we’ll be taking my race bike from this year, and dad will come over with me to mechanic.

“I think it’s going to be really awesome, I’m so stoked to be going over to compete against the MXGP field, and this is my first one. Having the opportunity to go to China will also better prepare me for Darwin, and I’m pretty open to what my future holds, so I want to have a good showing at these rounds.”

With a tight calendar to see out the remainder of 2025, 21-year-old Watson said that preparation for the AUSX Supercross Championship is underway, and that bouncing between each discipline has been necessary since the conclusion of ProMX.

“I’m still in preparation for supercross, I’ve just sort of juggled my schedule around a little bit so I can do a bit of both currently,” continued Watson. “After Darwin, we should have a couple of solid weeks of supercross training so that we are ready for Redcliffe in October.”

Watson, Rogers, and KTM Racing Team rider Dennis have also been announced as wildcards for the MXGP of Australia at Hidden Valley event, which marks the first time the grand prix series has visited the nation in over two decades.
